Workplace Bullying
by AnonymousLink to article
I have been bullied out of three jobs because the companies I worked for wanted to reduce staff without paying severance packages or unemployment compensation. At EDS in particular, managers are rewarded with bonuses for driving innocent people away empty-handed.
Psychological violence is corporate America’s preferred method of staff reduction these days. I’m hoping that UP will give this despicable practice more attention in the future. These evil institutions send people away with long-term psychiatric injuries, and the lack of media attention is scandalous in itself. See www.bullyinginstitute.org for a better description of workplace bullying.

After a prolonged absence and many make-do jobs, I’m finally back in my old field – sort-of.
It’s been eight weeks and I’m ready to quit. Verbal abuse every day. One time I was talked to because I paper-clipped a packet instead of stapling it. (At the height of my career, I was a middle manager.)
I’ve started talking back to him, (in a nice way), but he never talks to men like he talks to me. It’s getting to be too much. It’s affecting my health.
My few benefits don’t begin until 90 days, even then, they suck! What am I clinging to?

It sounds like you are being systematically bullied. Obviously you agree or you wouldn’t have responded to my story.
It sounds like your employer decided that they really don’t need you or someone wants to give a personal friend or family member your job; and they’ve turned a professional bully on you to run you off empty handed. It could also be that your manager is a socialized sociopath who has gone after you because he sees you as vulnerable.
Whatever the case, you need to keep the bully from getting inside your head before he or she can do any long-term damage. I know, easier said than done. Believe me when I tell you that I understand what you are going through.
I highly recommend that you visit the Namies website mentioned in my article or get their book, The Bully at Work. You need to understand that what is happening to you is not your fault. All bullies and their corporate enablers are liars and cowards. You don’t deserve the shabby treatment you are getting. Remember that!
I also hope you will join me in getting United Professionals and perhaps even Barbara Ehrinreich to give more attention to the evil practice of workplace psychological violence as a method of staff reduction.
My goal get 60 Minutes to devote a segment to the topic of workplace bullying.
Keep me and the rest of us updated on your situation. And if anyone else has a workplace bullying story, please share it with us.

Thanks for replying. Yes, I agree with you – systematically bullying. (In fact, the place seems like a cult.)
I will help you in any way I can. Don’t know how much longer I’ll have this job. Every day I feel like I want to quit.
And I will keep you posted. This job is not worth a stress-related heart attack.
