The Rich Are Staging a Coup Right Now

“Friends,
Let me cut to the chase. The biggest robbery in the history of this country is taking place as you read this. Though no guns are being used, 300 million hostages are being taken. Make no mistake about it: After stealing a half trillion dollars to line the pockets of their war-profiteering backers for the past five years, after lining the pockets of their fellow oilmen to the tune of over a hundred billion dollars in just the last two years, Bush and his cronies — who must soon vacate the White House — are looting the U.S. Treasury of every dollar they can grab. They are swiping as much of the silverware as they can on their way out the door. …”

I think there is more to it than just the end of the Bush administration. The threats of global climate change, peak oil, and religious belief in the ‘end times’ all play a role. The Bush/McCain philosophy is about funneling as much wealth as they can toward their friends before the engine of wealth creation breaks down. And the notion that the rest of us will hold the bag depends on whether our system of government survives at all.
It is more likely that prosperity, democracy, and liberty have come to an end. Our next landscape will be a post-apocalyptic wasteland dotted by a few well-guarded enclaves of wealth. Those of us living in the Mad Max part should start building our socialist resource structures now.
