The question in response to L. Creech should be why we should feel compelled to compensate people for the stinginess of their employers. The mere fact that a practice has been around for a very long time does not automatically constitute a justification for said practice.

I think you all need to think about unintended consequences. Because it will cost my restaurants over 200,000, I will raise prices and lay off some on line workers. We pay well above minimum wage but why should servers, who make between 15 and 20 dollars per hour in tips, get a huge raise. I will be laying off about 10 people because of the server law and will not be as generous with raises to our non tipped employees because of this. I think this hurts the worker and why should guests tip as generously when the servers and tipped employees have gotten a big raise?

On the basis of this article, we could say that those who oppose the long-overdue minimum wage hike haven't got a CLUE.

Yes, Colorado’s Amendement 42 to raise minimum wage passed 53% to 47%! The minimum wage here will rise from $5.15 to $6.85 and restaurant servers’ base will go from $2.13 from $3.83. The increase takes effect Jan 1st.
