No More Permanent Jobs

I worked for an investment management firm for 15 years before outsourcing made it possible for them to reduce staff yet again. Since then I have been working as a consultant with no real job security or benenfits. The company I work for now has hired me as a consultant to help them get through the tough times so that they can outsource parts of their operations areas to India. And people ask me, why don’t I find a permanent job? I tell them there are no more permanent jobs.

When will enough be enough?
I feel your angst, indignation and pain.
Eventually, we’ll get to a zero-sum-gain: no one here to pay for housing in middle class neighborhoods; no one to pay taxes in property-rich districts; no one to inspire the next generation to aspire for their careers (if it’s eventually going overseas) will affect universities and colleges, unless all they will train is our competition.
When will enough be enough?

Yes, I totally believe that permanent, professional jobs are a thing of the past. And the temp jobs aren’t much better, unless you’re an IT professional willing to take a “secretary-type” job.
