“Finding a job in Florida is the toughest it has been in three years. State officials said Friday that Florida’s unemployment rate jumped to 4.7 percent in December from 4.3 percent in November. The basic problem: a slowdown in job creation. The economy is creating jobs, but not enough to keep up with growth in the labor force and to offset job losses in construction, manufacturing and publishing. …”

Having lived in Fl for more than 20 years I can tell you it was never easy, at least not for good paying corporate jobs. Downsized 4 times, it became impossible to find work. Interviewers asked if I was jinx. No, just got hired by company’s in trouble, though that fact never appeared in the annual report.

Yeah, that’s kind of how it works. When your resume looks like you jump around (like mine does), you can’t get hired by better companies. Then it’s a death spiral.
I have been part of four downsizings (or shutdowns) as well, and I have to tell the interviewers that I would still be with the first company if they had stayed in business.
